crafty friday, crib pillow

since silvie loves making pillows from her blankets i thought it was time to get her a flat pillow. while going through her closet i came across her highchair cushion we got at ikea that she no longer uses. i recycled one of her blankets, used some ribbon i had tucked away in my craft chest to come up with this design.

after playing with it for awhile, as much as she loves it, we decided to wait until she makes the transition from her crib to a bed, for safe measure.

**safety disclosure - i stitched the ribbons to the blanket and bows twice to prevent her from pulling off.

balloons over bend children's festival

over the weekend we took a break from work and ventured into bend to attend the festival for miss silvie's first face painting experience. but she wasn't keen on having anyone touch her face, so we settled with a cute arm ladybug instead. and a festival isn't a festival without enjoying some naughty vendor food; e.g. philly cheesesteak and a shared cup of frozen yogurt. we soaked up the very warm day and headed home with a very tired baby girl.

crafty friday, repurposed tealight candle holder

i'm pleased to announce we completed our first item on our family summer bucket list. when i put brenner in charge to come up with a bird feeder design, we jumped online for inspiration - but nothing really jumped out at us. so the other day while at the store, brenner spotted this cute little tealight in the clearance isle. perfect, right?! to add a vintage feel i used a chipped bowl from my grandmother's china set to create additional food storage for our feathered friends.

with our trip to hawaii rapidly approaching (25 days!) my mission was to find a few tops for silvie to wear that are fun and lightweight. so when i came across martha stewert's bandanna clothing link - i knew i had to make the sweet little halter top. for serious, it only took me 5 minutes and if i used a sewing machine, less.

alternative use: need bibs? blam.

bla bla : lost & found

remember when i spoke of silvie's beloved blabla last week? well while shopping in old navy yesterday she dropped it and within minutes i was in a panic frenzy searching the entire store for her. without success i left my name and number with hopes someone would have a heart and turn her in.

hours later i received a message on facebook from the assistant manager:

"we found bla bla the monkey! i tried the phone number that my associate wrote down, but it wasn't working...she probably switched a number. i decided to google your name and search for ya. i clicked on your link to your daily mel blog and was confirmed by your 7/5/11 entry. so glad i found ya! it will be in our "lost & found"

so there you have it; a.) outstanding customer service still exists, and b.) there is power in blogging and participating in the social network of facebook.

and now...silvie won't be the only one sporting a fancy binky holder.

annual family camping trip/adam's birthday/4th july celebration

last weekend we met my parents at magone lake where we spent an amazing three nights and four days together. as a bonus, we were able to celebrate adam's birthday and the first half of the 4th.

• brenner wasted no time diving right in.

• silvie, however, hesitated and chose to observe only.

• backpacking around the lake was silvie's (and adam's) favorite part of the trip. she literally was giddy with excitement and content during the entire hike.

• hiking highlights.

• brenner and grampy were able to sneak away from camp to do a little fly fishing together.

• and i was able to sneak away with my camera to play. 

• we took a break from camp and drove to the sumpter flea market, where we found a few old and new treasures to take home. if you haven't been - you must go.

a big thanks to my parents for reserving a great camping spot and for hosting silvie and i in their camping trailer. we love you guys and can't wait for next year.

month: ten

words worth noting

dada - this is her most favorite word and she uses it constantly.
mama - only says when she's hungry, hurt or wants out of her crib.
blabla - her must-have monkey rattle.

despite her stage 5 clinging phase, this month has been our favorite and most enjoyable. she has bloomed into quite the little independent girl, spending longer periods of time discovering and really learning how her toys work. when it's too quiet and i think she's up to no good, which is usually with the roll of toilet paper, i love finding her content with a toy and happily playing. and believe it or not she's still toothless! no complaints from me since we're still nursing.

another recent favorite of silvie's is camping. here's a shot from last weekend of her chillin' in the backpack while on a hike around magone lake.
