crafty friday, candy topiary

i made this fun-yummy candy topiary for brenner's upcoming birthday party. at first i thought it would be an inexpensive centerpiece and party favors all-in-one, but apparently i was unaware of the ridiculous cost of styrofoam these days.

a few hours and hot glue burns later...

twice loved

while organizing the garage i came across a box of my childhood dolls and other memorable items. i was like a kid in a candy store pulling out my well-loved cabbage patch doll, and sally, who's butt was sewn on with stuffing and felt by grandma hazel so i could carry her around on my hip. and these two lovelies, my raggedy ann and andy dolls my mama made for me when i was 5 months old.

and here's miss silvie with them, clearly more aggressive and less likely to tan as well as her mama.

meet mimi and her baby. my mission: to recycle the leftover material from the quilt my mother made for silvie and one of my favorite shirts with buttons baby girl recently outgrew.

wear it. make it. share it. a fun concept i hope to continue with, as time and my husband's patience allows.

• started teething and likes to chew on all the hems of her dresses.


• she "found" winston and is fully obsessed with lovingly torturing him.


• building strong abs by sitting up in all her inclined equipment to view her surroundings.


• loves meleah and the kids at my piyo class.


• laughs at daddy when he rocket launches her, sound effects included.


• reaches for book pages.


• prefers oatmeal over rice cereal and is taking a liking to sweet potatoes.


• screams in delight for mum-mum rice rusks.


• chillin' on her tummy still displeases her.


• maneuvers her binky and small toys amazingly well.


• wiggles feets while sitting up.


• bath time is a fun and soaking event that now requires us to wear a wetsuit.


• big-time fights naps!


• making raspberry noises with her tongue is her new method of communication.


• ate some sand for the first time on the beach at newport, oregon.
